Hattie Washington

December 23, 1921 — December 6, 2018

Mrs. Hattie Mae Washington is worthy of her title as "A Woman of Distinction". She was born December 23, 1921 in the old Saint Ann Hospital in Abilene, Texas to the parents of Ike and Gazzie Grant Wheeler and departed for her home in Glory on December 6, 2018. In 1940 she married Willie Washington Sr. and from that union was born 5 children. She was a well-loved woman who loved her family, dominoes and known as the lady who sold soda, ice cream and pickles to the neighborhood. Hattie also loved her garden that produced her vegetables and flowers. Let us not forget that she also loved watching Steve Harvey on the game show channel. She was a devoted member of Ash Street Baptist Church, where she held many titles. Hattie received an award as senior member of the church, chief cook and bottle washer because she loved to cook. She was head usher and would usher at every church she attended. Shiloh Baptist Church recognized her for being a devoted usher at all the churches she attended.

Mother Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Gazzie Wheeler; two sisters, Isabelle Rhodes and Ester M. Clay; two brothers, Charles and Richard Wheeler; one son, Robert L. Washington; one daughter, Willie B. Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters, Betty Richardson, Tylee Turnerhill and husband Milton both of Abilene, TX; two sons, Willie Washington Jr. of Abilene, TX., James Washington an wife Mearlene of Killeen, TX; a niece that was like a daughter, Gloria Cubit of California; an adoptive son and daughter, Steve and Rose Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
