Hazel Mahomes Harris, age 84, ended her journey and her soul is now in the hands of the Lord. Hazel died peacefully Saturday, November 1, 2014 at her home with family just as she wanted.
Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 2 pm.
Born February 28, 1930, Hazel lived the majority of her life in Abilene after arriving here in 1961. From her marriage to Andrew Harris, five children were born. Hazel was dedicated to the Lord and to her children. There was nothing she would not do for her children. Known in the community as a tough mother, Hazel did things the right way and would let you know it. Hazel was an avid sports fan loving the Cowboys and watching her children and grandchildren participate.
Hazel was a devoted member of St. John Baptist Church and recently Miracle Independent Baptist Church. Hazel was a longtime employee of Valley Faucet, MHMR and the Marbridge House. Hazel retired from work in 1987 and lived her life full of the Lord and caring for her family.
Survivors include sons, LaMart Myra Harris of Abilene and Adam Harris of Oxon Hills, Maryland. Five grandchildren left to mourn include Dominique Harris of Dallas, Clinton Barnes Toni of New York, Andrew IV Nancy Harris of Irving, Shawon Leanna Harris and Jordan Harris of Lubbock. Eight great grandchildren will truly miss their Mimi. Hazel leaves a host of friends and other relatives to mourn her passing.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Andrew Jr., sons Byron Keith Harris and Andrew Harris III, and daughter Georgina Harris.
