Hazel Gary Jackson, 58, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Abilene. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 24th at Galilee Baptist Church, 1011 Briarwood with interment following in the Garden of Hope at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 23, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Hazel was born in Abilene on February 15, 1953 the daughter of Ben E. Moore Jr. and Lela Mae Bailey. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1971. Hazel was a longtime member of the Miracle Independence Community Church where she played the piano and was active with the music department.
During Hazels 21 years of service with the Betty Hardwick Center, she was active with Special Olympics and the Cypress Activity Center Sign Choir. Hazel was also a big Abilene High Eagles fan, and would take her clients with her to all home games.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Lee Jackson of Abilene her son, Larry Gary Jr. fianc Kristin of Abilene her granddaughters, Symone Gary of Abilene and Breanna Gary of Dallas three sisters, JoAnne Morris Larry of Bossier City, Louisiana, Sandra Wilson of Goldsboro, North Carolina, and Alice Moore of Abilene one brother, Ben E. Moore III of Stockton, California Aunt, Hazel Diggs of Arlington Uncle, Paul Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada and a host of cousins and friends, including special friends, Betty Redic Boone and, Linda McIntee Arthur and Jocelyn Franklin.
Preceding her in death was her parents Ben E. Moore Jr. and Lela Mae Bailey, her grandparents Ben Sr. and Cecelia Moore, two sisters, Vivian Carson and Cecelia Ruth Ubah, and a brother, L. D. Williams.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sam Daggubati, Dr. Nancy Daggubati and the staff at the Hendrick Medical Center Critical Care Unit for the loving care shown to Hazel throughout her illness.
