Helen Wood

Helen Jeanne Wood, 94, passed away November 18, 2016 in Abilene. Visitation will be Monday, November 21, 2016 from 12:00 noon till 2:00 PM, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A graveside funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM, Monday in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Helen was born March 28, 1922 in Eastland, Texas to parents, Nelson and Mary Thompson Rosenquest. She graduated from Eastland High School and then Texas Tech University with a degree in Education. Throughout school she enjoyed and was a very good softball player. She met Billy Wood and they were married in Eastland during WWII while he was serving our country. After the war they settled in Abilene and began their family. Helen taught at Madison Middle School for more than 20 years. After her retirement she enjoyed travelling, visiting with family, doing crossword puzzles and gardening. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Shakespeare Club.
Helen is survived by her three children, Jeanne Jowers and husband Charles of Abilene, Danny Wood and wife Cindy of Arlington, and Jazen Wood of Austin; seven grandchildren, Callie Jowers, Erin Jowers, Clay Jowers and wife Hannah, Ryan Wood and wife Monica, Robin Wood and Husband Jeff, Sierra Bair, and Will Bair; eleven great-grandchildren, Tristan McCory, Dylan Smith, Eden Jowers, Maya McKee, Clarity Jowers, Aliyah Jowers, Micah Jowers, Josiah Jowers, Lilah Jowers, Blake Wood, and Ian Wood; one sister, Ruth Smith of Eastland; one sister-in-law, Jan Johnson of Roswell, NM; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy; three sisters, Nell St. John, Annie Laurie McKenzie, Edith Tully; and her parents.
