Helga Maria Hopper, 81, died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in Abilene. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 15th in the Garden of Ten Commandments at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be the same day as the service from Noon to 1:45 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Helga was born on February 27, 1931 in Schweinfurt, Germany. While living through the war in Germany, she met the love of her life, Earnest O. Boots Hopper, who was stationed there while serving in the U.S. Army. Helga enjoyed shopping, upholstering, sewing, and embroidery. She and Boots loved traveling in their RV, especially on trips to Colorado where they loved finding German mushrooms and potatoes and fishing for trout. Helga also enjoyed the company of other Germans through her connections with the GermanAmerican Club. She has been a resident of Abilene since 1969.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Earnest Boots Hopper her children, Don Hopper and Tina Hopper both of Abilene her sisters, Christl Semineth of Germany and Inge Hall of Pennsylvania sistersinlaw, Mary Frances Kiser and Betty Jo Kyees of Odessa and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Heart Association.
