Henry Cochran Schulz passed away peacefully on February 15, 2017 after a long life of 98 years. A memorial service will be 1:00 PM, Friday, April 7, 2017 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
Known as "Heinie" to his family, Henry was born on March 17, 1918 in Houston, Texas to Irma Denise Cochran Schulz and Henry Rudolph Schulz. After graduating from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Henry's family moved to Abilene in 1937. While attending college at Hardin Simmons University, Henry met and married Mary Ruth Hamilton, his beloved wife of 63 years. Soon thereafter, Henry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served proudly for a number of years, was a Veteran of WWII and the Korean War, retired with the rank of captain in 1953, and continued to serve his country as an Army reservist until 1963. With an honorable discharge, Henry moved his family back to Abilene where he and Mary Ruth raised their two daughters. After a long career, Henry retired from the Texas Highway Department in 1988.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, brother Malcolm Schulz; his wife, and his daughter Jan Dunbar Douglass.
He is survived by his daughter Denise Schulz; three grandchildren: Vince (Stacy) Dunbar, James (Jenny Banks) Dunbar, Danielle Schulz (Rene; Moffatt); and two great-grandchildren Madison and Maxwell Dunbar.
