Hilde Woods

Hilde Natke Woods, 92, died Friday, January 5, 2018 in a local nursing home. Chapel services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Woods was born on March 22, 1925 in Oldenburg, Germany and grew up during the turbulent times of World War II. Besides herself, the only other family member that survived the war was her father. She immigrated to Canada as a young women and worked in a German-speaking nursing home and eventually immigrated to the United States where she married her husband Tom Woods in 1964. They lived a very happy life together in Washington DC where she worked as a bookkeeper. They were avid travelers and saw most of the world together. Besides her husband and travel, her great love was for her church. She was a lifelong Baptist. She came with Tom to Abilene, TX in 1995 and faithfully attended Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and her beloved Sunday School Class.

Survivors include nieces Bonnie, Dana, Barbie, Judy, Alice, Irma, Kathryn, and nephews Joe, Pat, and Alan.

Memorials may be sent to her favorite charities, The American Red Cross or Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
