Hillie Bohannan

May 17, 1935 — October 5, 2009

Long-time Abilene resident, Hillie Paul Bohannan, Jr., 74, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at Hendrick Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Bohannan was born on May 17, 1935 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to H. P. and Phronie Bohannan. Shortly after his seventeenth birthday, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and continued his service for 22 years. Paul married Vera Mae Lucy on October 3, 1957 and had three daughters: Tammi Briscoe of Abilene, Debbi Bailey of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Ava Bohannan of Merkel.

Those who love and remember Paul recall that he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was, likewise, an iron-willed yet soft-hearted man who loved and cared for his family, first and foremost. He was also a funloving guy who enjoyed hunting and spending good times playing Bingo.

After retiring from the U. S. Air Force in 1976, he started Bohannan's Appliance Repair Service, which he successfully owned and operated for over 30 years. During this time he spent many memorable birthdays, vacations, and holidays with his children and grandchildren, always providing entertainment with his outgoing personality and comedic antics.

Mr. Bohannan was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, three brothers, and his wife of 29 years.

He is survived by daughter Tammi Briscoe and husband Rodney of Abilene; daughter Debbi Bailey and husband Jeff of Lawton, Oklahoma; daughter Ava Bohannan of Merkel; eight grandchildren: Ferra Blackburn, F-Paul Briscoe, Morgan Laughlin, Chase Bailey, Chance Briscoe, Chad Bohannan, Pat Bohannan, and Amy Bohannan; five great-grandchildren: Jace Laughlin, Logan Laughlin, Jaylea Laughlin, Tye Briscoe, and Ryder Laughlin; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Elmwood Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hendrick Hospice Care.
