Hoa Thi Bui died at age 82 on March 6, 2018. She was born in Vietnam and was married to the late Special Armed Force Lieutenant Colonel Commander, Thien Van Bui for 60 years. Together they had 5 children: Kim Nguyen married to Ca Nguyen, James Bui married to Maria Rojas, Kim Mai married to Deacon Hoa Mai, Kim Chi Nguyen married to Dam Nguyen and Kim Loan Bui, the youngest daughter. She had seven grandchildren.
In 1975, her family resettled in the United States through the sponsorship of Congressman Charles Stenholm and Major Chaplain William E. Coen. She adopted Abilene as her second home for the past 43 years. During her younger years, she attended the Catholic Convent School and was very active in her church. She was in the Worship ministry, a soloist in her church choir, and president of the Mother's group. She was admired by many for her influential speaking skill and leadership. She was a member of Sacred Heart church Abilene for 42 years. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Choir, Women of Sacred Heart organization and member of Legion of Mary. Hoa Bui lived a life of faith, prayer and trust in the Lord. She loved her children and always sacrificed herself for them and other people's needs before herself.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, TX. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 837 Jeanette Street, Abilene, TX 79602 and will be officiated by Msgr. Robert Bush and concelebrated by Very Rev. Santiago Udayar, Vicar General of the Diocese of San Angelo along with many family priests: Msgr. Joseph Van Nguyen, Rev. Michael Hoan Khai Mai, Rev. Le-Minh Pham, Rev. Dominic Hai Dinh.
Memorial donations may be made to "Loaves and Fishes Ministry" of Sacred Heart Church, 837 Jeanette Street, Abilene, TX 79602.
