Hubert Boyd Owens, 86, passed peacefully from this life Monday morning at his home in Abilene surrounded by his two daughters who lovingly supported him. He was born in Abilene in May of 1930 to John Soloman Owens and Nola Elizabeth Dobbs Owens. His twin brother Herbert Lloyd Owens proceeded him in death in November of 2016.
Visitation with friends and family will be at 9 a.m, Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 US Highway 277 S. Funeral Service will follow at 10 a.m, Saturday, February 4, 2017 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Hubert worked for Abilene Candy for 24 years and eventually branched out and started his own candy company in Abilene.
In 1969, he and his family moved to Fort Worth and he started his own lawn sprinkler service. He operated it until his retirement. He married Joyce Marie, his sweetheart, when they were both 17, and they shared 69 years together.
He will be remembered for being a hard worker and a man of his word and his love for his family and friends.
Preceding him in death was his son; Ronnie, grandson; Joseph, and his brothers Odell, JD, TB, Arnold, and Hap. Also his sister Gladys Bouldin and Glenna Seals, and his parents. He was the last surviving sibling.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Marie of Abilene, daughters; Sandy Owens of Abilene, and Sherry Coley and husband Dale of Abilene. Grandchildren; Colette McCadden and husband John and their children Greg, Evan, Owen and Meagan of Frisco, Texas; Brian Coley and wife Erin of Tyler, Texas; Twillia Tevebaugh and husband Craig of Canton, Texas and their children Taylor Tevebaugh, Danica and Bobby Irving.
