Cal Wolfenberger

Hugh “Cal” Wolfenberger, 66, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Tx.

Cal was born in Munich, Germany on October 31, 1957. He was adopted into a loving family and raised in Midland, Texas. Growing up, he loved playing baseball. Upon graduating from Lee High School, he attended Texas Tech University for a few years. Cal began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1978, where he spent his 30-year career with the phone company in construction and engineering.

Cal was known for having a warm, outgoing personality. He had the biggest heart and he never met a stranger.  There were many things he loved such as fishing, dancing, music, and of course a good baseball cap. Cal was a diehard sports fan and could often be found watching football and baseball.  Cal also had a love for softball, as he coached, supported, and cheered for his daughter Kelly.  They spent many years traveling the state playing ball.

Cal married his wife Sonalee on September 2, 2008. After they retired, they bought their dream ranch in May, Texas where they had donkeys, cows, and many other pets. A lover of all animals, his companions Abbey and Rip (his mini Australian Shepherds) were more than just pets - they were family. Cal loved taking the dogs on their daily ride around the ranch to check on the cows and the property.

Cal is survived by his wife Sonalee Wolfenberger; daughter, Kelly Wolfenberger; sons, Rance Harvey, and Heath Barber; grandchildren, Kiera Harvey, and Cole Harvey; brothers, Klaus Wolfenberger and wife Patti, and Randy Taylor and wife Irene; and many other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Don Wolfenberger; stepfather, Richard Randolph Taylor and mother, Kathleen Taylor.

Cal will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
