Irene Gooch Clemmer age 94, died May 31, 2009. She existed with the insidious disease of Alzheimers for many years.
Irene Gooch Clemmer was born on December 31, 1914 to Rosa Adeline Webb Gooch and Walter Dee Gooch in Pioneer, Texas. She grew up in Hamby, Texas and graduated from Abilene High School in 1933. She married Ernest R. Clemmer on October 3, 1934. She was a long time member of University Baptist Church; during that time, she enjoyed teaching young children in Sunday School, was the director of GAs for many years, and active in WMU. In 1998 she became a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 2nd from 6-8pm at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 3rd in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial follow in the Elmwood Memorial Park.
She is survived by her daughters, Frances R. and husband Ronald G. Carson, of Tyler, TX, Ernestine Tina and husband Danny E. Nelson of Abilene; her grandchildren, Ronald Glen Carson Jr. and wife Susan of Tyler, TX, Elaine Clark and husband Allen of Abilene, Jimmy Carson and wife Joleene of Abilene, Marianna Wheeler and husband Michael of Hillsboro, TX; great grandchildren, Jenna Chelsea Carson of Lubbock, Brittney and husband Trey DeLaCruz of Abilene, Christina and husband Ryan Smith of Denton, Garrat Carson of Tyler, Shelby Amberlyn Wheeler; 5 great-great grandchildren, Zachary McKee, Emilio Aiden DeLaCruz, Aubrey Katie Smith; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bert Young of Tuscola, Cloise Molly Clemmer, Don Recia Clemmer, JoeAnn Clemmer of Abilene, Nita Boyd of Richmond, Chera Clemmer of Monahans, Chess Gooch of Big Spring,Verna Jo Gabbard of Kokomo, IN, Gwendell Clemmer of Merkel, Jaunita Clemmer of San Angelo, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, Ernest Clemmer in 1997, a granddaughter, Jennifer Kay Nelson in 2004. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Dee and Floyd Toby Gooch, and 5 sisters, Eula Crow, Ethel Clemmer, Lorene Watts, Floy Young, and Agnes Moore.
Irene has been lovingly well cared for by Brenda Jowers in Merkel, TX since January 2008. Thank you Brenda.
