James L. Jim Fisher, 79, passed from this life into heaven on Tuesday, October 15th at Hendrick Medical Center from heart complications. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19th, at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 So., with Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 on Friday, Oct. 18th, at Elmwood Funeral Home.
Jim was born in Hanston, Kansas to Franklin D. and Elva Agnes Phillips Fisher on May 1, 1934. He attended school in Lansing, KS, until he joined the U.S.A.F. in the summer of 1951, when he was 17. While stationed at Cannon A.F.B in Clovis, N.M., he was married and had 2 daughters. When stationed at Dyess A.F.B. he met and married Jane Hodnett on December 9, 1966 at the age of 32.
He served in the A.F. for 20 years and ended his career as a Flight Engineer on C130s. He served in Korea in 195253 and had 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, A.F. Longevity Service Award with 4 bronze oak leaf clusters. Also the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Vietnam campaign ribbon and Vietnam Service Ribbon and numerous other awards and medals. He retired from the A.F. in July of 1971 and went to work for West Texas Utilities for 23 years where he retired again in May of 1994.
Jim and Jane enjoyed many years traveling in their motor home, belonging to the Eagar Beaver chapter of the Good Sams R.V. Club where he held many offices. They were on the Texas State Staff of Good Sams for 4 years. Later, they belonged to the Kountry Lone Star West chapter of the Newmar R.V. Club. They visited many States and spent several summers in the cool mountains in Ruidoso, N. M.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents one infant daughter, Mary Ruth three sisters, Belva Fisher Green, Mary Lois Brees, and Margaret Delores Means.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Jane one daughter, Renetta Fisher Day one son, Donald James Fisher 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
Memorials may be given to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory, Abilene, Tx 79601 or to St Judes Childrens Research Hospital, which Jim donated to on a monthly basis. Their address is 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
