James Jim Hegg, 89, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 in Abilene. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
Jim was born on August 4, 1922 in Del Rapids, SD to Ole and Minnie Hegg. He graduated from Del Rapids High School and attended Augustana College. He joined and began his training with the Army Air Corp in 1941. During training in San Angelo he married Katherine Kitty Honea in 1945 and completed his training in Pampa, TX where he received his wings and became a pilot in the United States Air Force. Throughout his 27 year career in the Air Force they were stationed in many places including, Okinawa, Japan, Roswell, NM, Enid, OK, Montgomery, AL, Florida, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. After his retirement in 1965 they moved to Abilene where he worked for Boykin Properties for 15 years. He served as a Deacon at Brook Hollow Christian Church, was a member of Tuscola Lions Club, enjoyed woodworking, golf, and fishing. He will be missed by all of his family especially his grandsons who were the highlight of his life.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kitty two children, Robert Hegg and wife, Jan of Dallas, Jan McCarty and husband, Larry of Hawley two grandsons, Ryon Parham and wife, Jennifer of Claremore, OK, and Chase McCarty and wife, Kelly of Keller two great grandchildren, Will and Lauren Parham, one soon to be greatgrandson, Mason McCarty and one brotherinlaw, Jim Honea and wife Betty of Big Spring.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald J Hegg his parents, and 6 brothers.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Sears Methodist Hospice for the love and care they received during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to Sears Methodist Hospice, Rescue the animals, or Brook Hollow Christian Church.
