James Mathiews

James A. Mathiews, 85, formerly of Abilene passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in Flower Mound, TX.

Graveside service will be held Friday September 19 at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.

James was born on September 15, 1929 in Cisco, TX to the late James A and Aileen Mathiews. He married Nancy Lynn Harkrider on December 26, 1950. James served his country in the Air Force for 20 years including tours in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military he became a bookkeeper for a large oil company until his retirement. James and Nancy traveled the U.S. in their second home, an RV, with Good Sams Club. He not only loved to travel but enjoyed golfing, putting puzzles together, fishing and playing with his grandchildren.

James is survived by daughters, Brenda Mathiews of Arlington, TX, Karen Parsons of San Marcos, CA, Shari James of Corinth, TX grandchildren, Rachael OLynn of Ashland, KY, Michael Parsons of Abilene, TX, Wesley James of Abilene, TX, Stephanie Arredondo of Abilene, TX great grandchildren, Caleb and Kyla OLynn of Ashland, KY numerous nephews and nieces.
