James Starritt

August 21, 1925 — September 3, 2018

James Allen "Bill" Starritt, 96, formerly of Abilene, passed away Monday, September 3, 2018 in Brownwood.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 2 PM at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 US HWY 277 South. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Saturday from 6 to 8 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Bill was born on August 21, 1925 to the late George Bill Starritt and May Belle Thomas Starritt in Anson, TX. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines. Bill married Geneva Scurlock on March 10, 1947 in Orange County, California. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage until Geneva's passing in 2012. Bill was a preacher and loved preaching the word of God. He loved to help others, enjoyed golfing, telling stories and kidding around. He was a member of Belmont Baptist church. He loved spending time with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his grandchildren, Cindy Starritt Wall Zaby and husband Peter, Kyle Starritt Doty and wife Karie; great grandchildren, Peter Nolan Zaby III, Nicolas Daniel Zaby, Ryan Elizabeth Zaby, Landon Charles Doty and Slade Steel Doty; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Bill was also preceded in death by his son, Billy J Starritt and 6 siblings.
