James Tatum

James Eugene Jim Tatum, 69, died at home on Friday, November 27, 2009. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in Elmwood Memorial Park with Pastor Amy Wilson officiating.

Born February 14, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Jim grew up in East Texas. He met and married his wife, Marie Alvilene Yates in Dallas in 1972 and moved to Abilene in 1974. He worked as a custodian at College Heights Elementary School for 10 years and at Abilene Food Bank for 8 years until his health forced him to retire.

Survivors include wife, Marie Alvilene Tatum; daughters, Jeanne Alice Tatum of the home and Laura Amy Clark Scott of Abilene; sisters, Judy Patak Ray of Dallas, Sue Weaver of Garland; brothers, Neal Tatum Lana of Pattle City, Missouri, John Tatum of China.

His parents, Merlin Mitchell Tatum Sr. and Alice Merle Bivens Tatum and 1 brother, Merlin M. Tatum Jr. preceded him in death.
