James William Wells, Sr. passed away Sunday. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will be 11:30 AM on Monday, May 7, 2018 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W Lake Rd.
James was born April 8, 1929 to Jesse and Albany Wells in Moline Kansas. He attended Spring Creek Country School (Chautauqua County) through 8th grade and Sedan High School through 11th leaving to join the Airforce at age 17. He proudly served his country for 28 Years. James married the love of his life Sumiko Muromoto on April 5, 1957 in Fukuoka Japan. James liked to fish, solve puzzles (crossword and cryptographs), play chess, play cards, and enter lotteries. He loved animals and was the quintessential "Good Samaritan"-always stopping to help those in need and believing the best in everyone he met. In his later years, he spent each day making his rounds with his dog to visit the corner store, the pawn shop, the vet, and his banker providing each with a smile and down home good wishes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Albany Wells; grandchild, Christopher Alan Ricker; two siblings, Ivan Wells of Sedan KS, and Opal Wells of Sedan KS.
James is survived by his wife, Sumiko Muromoto; his children, James William Wells JR, Melanie Sue Ricker, and David Wayne Wells and wife April Dawn; grandchildren, David Michael Wells, and Judith Albany Wells; one sisiter, Louise Logsdon of Winfield KS.
