Janet Martin Bannister

August 2, 1955 — December 26, 2024

Mother, Daughter, Grandmother, Sister, Wife, and Auntie. Janet was all this and more, but now gone too soon. She passed December 26th in her home in Texas surrounded by family. Her memorial service and reception will be back in Washington State on Saturday March 1, 2025 at Maltby Christian Assembly from 12:00pm-4:00pm. We are asking everyone attending to wear their favorite shade of purples or greens as those were her favorite colors as this will be a be a happy celebration of life like she would have wanted. Janet was born August 2,1955 in Renton Washington. She was the oldest of three siblings and at the young age of 6 took on a caregiver roll for her brother Jimmy and sister Cara before they were unfortunately all separated in the foster care system. Janet had lived with three foster families until a temporary situation grew permanent and found her forever home with the Bannisters when she was formally adopted. Growing up in Kenmore Washington, Janet graduated from Inglemoor High School in 1973 and shortly after earned her Cosmetology license. She worked at Logsdons Salon downtown Bothell where she met her future husband Joe Martin. They were married in 1985 and together had three children, Jacqueline, Jordan, and Janel. She was known for her vibrant Spirit and boundless creative imagination that could out-do Pinterest. She loved to crochet and sew and would often make clothing or fun costumes for her family. She was more keen to a holistic approach for health and tried to incorporate that into every aspect of all of our lives. She swore that oil of oregano or as she would say "Tripple O" was the cure all to everything and was constantly forcing it upon all of us. As we laughed at her and rolled our eyes, it turns out she was really onto something and planted that seed for us to find our own health journey. Cooking and baking was an effortless talent, yet she was never fond of a recipe. A pinch of this and a handful of that always seemed to end up perfect and delicious. Her braided cinnamon roll bread was always the first request for any get together. Gardening and being in nature was her happy place as she surrounded herself with flowers, mountains, camping trips by water and especially the ocean. She had an ever growing collection of heart rocks, painting/craft supplies, and special trinkets that she could turn into a project. She would often search her favorite place in the world, Mukilteo beach for heart rocks or beach glass that she would incorporate into her mosaic crafts. A famous phrase everyone in her life knew her for using was "What to do with what ya got". She could turn someone's trash into a beautiful art project or home decor piece. Most fundamental to Janet however, was her personal relationship with Jesus. She was deeply committed and loved to pray constantly keeping everyone in her prayers. She would go through every letter of the alphabet at night to pray for anyone and everyone by name even in her final days of life. She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline and Janel; son, Jordan; granddaughter, Miley; her four brothers, Bill (Barb), Jim (Suzanne), Tom (Rhonda), and Jerry (Cindy); and her ex husband, Joe (Carol); and several nieces and nephews. Janet was an ambitious, thoughtful, and gentle soul who fought with all of her capacity to try and help mend this broken world and fight her illness. We love you and can't wait to see you again in that perfect place that God intended for us to live in.
