Janice Terry Tiner “Granny”, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, November 18, 2022, in Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A reception will follow the service at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1741 Sayles Blvd., Abilene, Texas.
Janice was born November 12, 1938, to Dallas and Lota Murphy in Abilene, Texas. She attended McMurry University and Baylor University to receive her bachelor’s degree. On December 30, 1958, Janice married the love of her life Robert Wayne Tiner and the couple spent 51 blissful years together before Robert’s passing in 2010. Janice spent her life giving back to the community through teaching at Abilene ISD for 12 years and Wylie ISD for 16 years. She attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church and attended many mission trips during her membership there. After retiring Janice enjoyed gardening, square dancing with her love, golfing, attending Wylie football games, helping with VBS at her church, and traveling with her husband and numerous friends. Above all Granny loved her family and spent every day making sure they were well cared for. Her legacy of love and dedication to the Lord will be one that carries on for generations to come.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Wayne Tiner; her two children, Terry Tiner, and Cynthia Lamberson; one grandchild, Kelly Tiner; one great grandchild, Tre Vasquez; two brothers, Pat Murphy and Mike Murphy.
Granny is survived by her grandchildren, Kyle Tiner, Nathan Tiner, Randy Tiner, Cheri Valverde, Jessica Vasquez; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Steve Murphy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorials may be made in honor of Janice to The Wylie Education Foundation, Aldergate United Methodist Church, or West Texas Rehab.
