Janis Marlene Adams, 93, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born on March 3, 1932, and spent most of her life in her beloved hometown of Abilene, Texas.
Janis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Otis Adams, in 1997, and later by her second husband, Charlie Merrell, in 2020. Janis is survived by her three children: Judy, Doug, and David; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
A naturally creative spirit, Janis had a passion for making beautiful things. She was known for her skillful flower arrangements, handmade crafts and cards, and her gentle touch with watercolor painting. Her creations often brightened the lives of those around her and reflected the care and warmth she put into everything she did.
Janis was a kind and gracious woman, remembered by all who knew her for her gentle demeanor, generous heart, and unwavering faith. She was a long-standing and active member of Southwest Park Baptist Church in Abilene, where she found community, purpose, and joy in worship and fellowship.
Her family and friends will deeply miss her presence, her wisdom, and her steady encouragement. Though her passing leaves a void, her legacy of love, creativity, and faith will continue to live on in the lives she touched.
A funeral service will be held in her honor at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel in Abilene, Texas, on Monday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m.
