Jay "Hacker" Franks, 87, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Abilene. A celebration of Jay's life will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, officiated by Steve Parker and Steve Hardin.
Jay was born January 5, 1929, to Henry (Hip) and Effie Franks in Duster, Texas in Comanche County. He graduated from Duster High School in 1946 and was enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1948-1949. He married Jackie Nell Miller on June 10, 1955.
He worked for Southwestern Bell for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He has been a member of Faith Baptist Church since 1960 where he served as a Deacon and in a number of other ministries. Jay was an avid sports fan and has held Cooper High School football season tickets since 1967. Jay never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
He is survived by wife of 60 years, Jackie; two daughters, Becky Young and husband Trennon of Stephenville, Janet Franks of Dallas; two grandsons, Zach Young and wife Tiffany of Abilene, and Jordan Young and wife Victoria of Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Mary Winkles and Doris Kinnard.
