Jeannie Riley

August 23, 1947 — January 18, 2025

 Jeannie Kay Riley, 77, of Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2025, surrounded by her three loving daughters, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 24, 2025, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Keith Olivier. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Jeannie was born on August 23, 1947, in Abilene, Texas, to her loving parents, Louis and Doris Austin. She was raised in Baird, Texas, and she spent most of her life in the Abilene area. 

Jeannie enjoyed quilting and poured her heart into creating treasures for her loved ones. Her family meant the world to her, and she took immense joy in spending time with her 3 daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a gift for songwriting and poetry, often writing heartfelt worship songs about the Lord that reflected her deep faith and devotion. Her furry companions, Gracie Mae, Willie, and Scotty Rio, also brought her endless joy and comfort.

Known for her compassionate spirit, Jeannie never missed an opportunity to send a thoughtful birthday card or extend kindness to those in need, especially children, the elderly, and the disabled. Jeannie dedicated 40 years to her career as a hairstylist, serving the Abilene community with care and skill. Her work extended to Wisteria and Sears Methodist, where she brought joy and beauty to the residents. Additionally, she provided private care for the elderly, ensuring they felt valued and loved.

Above all, Jeannie had an unshakable love for the Lord and lived every day of her life devoted to Him. Her faith was her foundation, and she strived to live as a true example of a Christian woman. She passionately shared His teachings with her family leaving a legacy of faith and love that will endure for generations. Jeannie’s warm heart and unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community will forever be remembered and cherished by those who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Riley; her parents, Louis and Doris Austin; four brothers; three sisters one being her twin sister; and her beloved granddaughter, Katlynn Creek. 

Jeannie is survived by her daughters, Pam Gonzales and husband Daril, Tammye Creek and husband Steve, Machael Hall and husband Monty; her grandchildren that knew her as Grandma, Kellye Brown (Jace), Haleigh Bullock (Donny), Kadie Tyson (Clayton), Shelby Lohmann (Vincent), Jenna Chittum (Koda Pack), Austin Chittum (Shian Dyer), Dalton Hall, Hannah Grimmett (Chris), Rhett Hall, and Aaron Chittum; eight great grandchildren who all adored her and affectionately called her Memaw, Kaylinn, Mason, Cohyn, Silo, Chandler, Cooper, Maverick, and Peyton; one brother; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. 

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association, your local children's ministry or hospice group. The family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Outreach Home Health, Pathfinders Skilled Care and Therapy, and Bristol Hospice for the love and compassion you showed our mom and family.
