Jerry Johnson Arther, 75, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9th at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander St. in Abilene. Entombment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park following a short reception at the church. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
Jerry was born on April 23, 1938 in Eastland, Texas where he grew up and graduated from Eastland High School. He received his Bachelors Degree from Hardin Simmons University and was the Vice President of Treanor Equipment Company for over 30 years. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, hanging out at the lake, traveling and raising his longhorns. He was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest and a volunteer mentor through the MHMR crisis hotline.
Survivors include his children, Jeff Arther and wife Daphne of Buffalo Gap, Jenifer Earley and husband Jon of Dallas, and Sue Phillips and husband David of Laguna Niguel, California stepson, Brien Lawler and wife Shana of San Antonio ten grandchildren, Andrew Fisher and wife Holly, Dillon Wilson, Sydney Arther, Jamey Jackson, Lauren, Jordan and Kylie Phillips, and Garrison, Griffin and Grayson Lawler two sisters, Jane Johnson and husband Tom of Waxahachie and Christina South of Dallas along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
His parents, Sidney Johnson Arther and Flora June Thomas Arther, his wife, Kay Arther, brothers, Jay, Tip, and Bill Arther, and his stepdaughter, Shari Miller preceded him in death.
