Jerry Scherwitz

Jerry Ray Scherwitz, 79, of Sweetwater passed away Monday, November 7, 2022, in Coleman, Texas. A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 10:00 AM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Jerry was born October 15, 1943, in Sweetwater, TX to the late Raymond and Lois Scherwitz. He married Joanna Jones on July 15, 1967, in Nolan/Divide, TX. The couple spent 53 blissful years together until Joanna passed away on September 18, 2021. Jerry graduated from Roby High School, McMurray University with his Bachelors, and Hardin Simmons with his Masters. From 1967 to 1970 Jerry taught history. He was a successful entrepreneur that ran a cotton farm, cattle business, and a catfish farm. He and Joanna also grew and sold fresh, organic produce to the residents of Nolan and Fisher counties. Late in life Jerry became a crop insurance adjuster and retired in 2019. Most of all Jerry loved his family with all his heart and worked hard every day to give them a wonderful life. Most importantly Jerry loved the Lord with his whole heart. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 53 years.
Jerry is survived by his children, John David Scherwitz and wife Shelli Annette Scherwitz, Bryan Dale Scherwitz and husband Michael Krause, Travis Daniel Scherwitz; grandchildren, Patrick Sloan Scherwitz, Kameron Jaymes Scherwitz, Karson Daniel Scherwitz, Dylan Shane Scherwitz; siblings, Larry Scherwitz and wife Deborah, Terry Scherwitz and wife Shelly, and Judy King and husband Edward; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
