Jessie Davis

Jessie Lenore Davis joyfully joined her Savior, many friends and family members in heaven on February 26, 2018. She had recently celebrated her 82nd birthday with her family and friends at Mesa Springs where she had resided since January of 2017.

Jessie was born to Willie and Ada (Carpenter) McDonald on November 22, 1935, in Wichita Falls, TX. She was a graduate of Burkburnett High School and began employment at the telephone company until she married the love of her life, Charles Ray Davis, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho on April 12, 1955. Jessie and Charles began their married life in Spokane, Washington where he was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. In addition to being a military wife and mother to her four children, Jessie was a faithful church member in their many communities of residence. While Dad made sure his children knew the value of work, Mom made sure her children and husband knew Jesus. Other than the birth of each of her children, her happiest moment was watching Dad accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior and follow with baptism after 41 years of marriage! Jessie resumed her professional career when her children entered middle school, working as a bookkeeper and a dental assistant until her retirement in 1998.

Mom and Dad were active members of Broadview Baptist Church and volunteers with Hospice of the Big Country during retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray of 59 years; her parents; and her sister, Ada Jane (McDonald) Rutledge.

She is survived by her four children, Kay (Leman) Barmore of Abilene, William Ray (Melody) Davis of Amarillo, Charles Wesley (Becky) Davis of Abilene, and Linda (Brian) Cargile of Abilene; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; niece, Tina Davis of Houston; three siblings and numerous friends and relatives.

Funeral service will be at Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 S 27th Street, Abilene, Texas on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 3:00 PM, with burial following at Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 6:00 PM - 8:00PM at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas.

The family would like to express gratitude to the staff at Mesa Springs, Hospice of the Big Country, and Dr. Dean Allen Schultz for the exceptional care provided prior to, and during her stay at Mesa Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Broadview Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of the Big Country.
