Jewell Korgie

Jewell Korgie, a longtime resident of both Abilene and San Diego, passed away Wednesday the 10th of August at Abilene Regional Medical Center.

Born in San Diego in 1927, Jewell lived and worked in Southern California for most of her life, moving to Texas 12 years ago.

Jewell loved gardening and taking care of her yard. A typical day for Jewell included spending hours sitting in her yard, pulling weeds, potting plants, and watering new life. She was also an avid swimmer, and attended swim classes every day at the State Street YMCA. She was an active 89 year old woman that was never quite happy sitting in one place for too long.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Korgie, also of San Diego.

She is survived by her daughters, Stacy Garces of Abilene, Janice Perez and Cheryl Perez of Vancouver Washington; her son Bradley Summers of Escondido, California; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her loving Scottie, Kinsey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Abilene YMCA, 3250 State Street, Abilene, TX 79603.

A memorial in her honor will be held on Saturday the 13th of August at 1:00 p.m. at Elmwood Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Abilene.
