Jimmie Charles Watkins also known as "Big Jim" and "Monkeyman" passed away Monday, October 28, 2019. Jim was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Ruben and Mandy Watkins, he was one of four boys. Jim also attended high school in Montgomery. Later as a young man Jim moved to Abilene, where he worked for Paymaster Feed, later he went to work at Pride Refinery as a truck driver for many years. After Pride closed he purchased his own rig and continued driving for Bilbo Transportations until his health declined.
Jim is preceded in death by parents Ruben and Mandy Watkins, brothers; Ruben "Red", Roosevelt, John Henry Watkins, and granddaughter, Erin Singleton.
Jim leaves behind 2 sons, John (Malaka) Mosby of Odessa and Brandon Woods of Oklahoma. 4 daughters, Elizabeth "Peg" Singleton of Montgomery, Michelle Parker of Dallas, Erika Watkins of Abilene, Lillie "Robin" Mosby of Odessa, and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom he loved and loved to be around so much.
Monkeyman also leaves behind a group of special truck driving buddies which they would sit around, laugh, eat and tell funny and untrue stories.
Jim loved food, his family especially his grandchildren, he also loved rebuilding and storing old cars, sitting under a shade tree hollering and waving at people. Even with his health and eyesight declining Jim loved driving and being on that open road.
Jimmie C will be missed by all that knew him and came in contact with.
A visitation will be 5:00PM – 7:00PM on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, November 4, 2019 at Bethel Church of God in Christ, 634 Cottonwood St. Abilene, Texas. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.
