Jimmy Dixon Martin, 73, of Abilene passed away June 21, 2016.

He was born in Jacksonville, FL on July 8, 1942. He was preceded in death by his mother, Merle Dixon Martin, and father, Bennie Nicholas Martin. Jimmy married Linda Sue Hahn on November 1, 1963 in Eunice, NM.

Jimmy served honorably in the United States Air Force for 21 years. During the Vietnam Conflict he was stationed on Okinawa, Taiwan, and Japan working primarily as a C-130 mechanic. He retired in 1983 at Dyess Air Force Base.

A longtime resident of Eunice, NM, Jimmy retired from New Mexico Department of Agriculture in 2002 after 23 years of service. He was a member of the Texas Cushman Club for 32 years and is the reigning Slow Race Champion.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Sue Hahn Martin, their two children Brett and Kerry Martin, and their daughters-in-law Jennifer Martin and Colandra Bonaparte.

Visitation will be at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 S., on Thursday June 23, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene, with full military honors, on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. David Cason. Honorary Pallbearers include John Henslee, Terry Ellis, Jerry Johnson, Harry Hawthorne, Rusty Coffman, Lee Fox, Lee Bennett, Bob Coffman, and Jim Rose.
