Jo Marie Gordon, 88, died Sunday, August 7, 2011 in Abilene. Her funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 12th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation is from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Jo Marie was born in Dallas on December 20, 1922 the daughter of William Dave Wharton and Berta Goodrum Wharton. She served in the U.S. Navy in 1944 where she was one of the original key punch operators. She was a retired executive secretary. Jo Marie married Elza Boyd Gordon on October 16, 1982 in Abilene and they were long time members of Abilene Bible Church and later members of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. She was active with The Gideons International and the Central Texas Gem and Mineral Society in Abilene.

Survivors include her husband, Elza of Abilene her daughter, Donna Jean DJ Lazio and husband Dr. Tommy Lazio of Abilene her stepdaughter, Diana Elizabeth Kendall Osborne and husband Harold Osborne of Waco 2 brothers, Donald Wharton and David Wharton both of Nashville, Tennessee 4 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren.

Her parents and a sister, Edith Ann Jolly preceded her in death.
