Joe Gamez

Joe Gamez, 81, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 at an Abilene care home. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 22nd at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 23rd in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Gamez was born on September 29, 1927 in Georgetown, Texas. After his marriage to Aurora Hernandez, he raised his family in Lamesa where he worked in the farming industry. He has lived in Abilene for the last 25 years, where he combined his love for the Lord and his love of music by working as an Evangelistic DJ at a Merkel radio station. He was a Baptist and always enjoyed playing the guitar and singing at church.

Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, Aurora Gamez of Abilene; eight children, Juan Gamez and wife Sylvia, Raul H. Gamez and wife Mary, Sylvia DeLaCruz and husband Pedro all of Abilene, Maria Gonzales and husband Mike of Amarillo, Elena Hernandez of Abilene, Daniel Gamez and wife Becky of Amarillo, Joe Gamez of Amarillo, Elaine Serono and husband Joe of Amarillo; two sisters, one brother, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
