Joe Solis

Joe Vasquez Solis, affectionately known to his family as "Sonny" and to friends as "Texas Joe" passed away during the early morning hours of March 30th, 2021. He was 70 years old.
He was born January 8th 1951 in Edna Tx, the only son of Angelita Vasquez and Joe Solis. Joe graduated from Calhoun High School, Class of 1970. Following graduation he served with the US Air Force from 1972 to 1976 where he worked as an Air Frame Repair Specialist. After the service he attended San Bernardino Valley College where he certified as an Airframe Maintenance Technician. This lead to a highly reputable career, spanning over 30 years and working for several prominent aerospace companies including Lockheed Martin, Lear Siegler, L-3 Technologies and Northrop Grumman.
In 1990 while traveling for work in Iceland he met Asta Bjork. The connection between them was instant and they married later that year. After spending some time traveling the US, they settled in Abilene, TX to raise their blended family. They celebrated 30 years of marriage in December.
Although often surrounded by family or friends, Joe considered himself a lone wolf and cherished motorcycle riding and the freedom of the open road. He was a patched member of the SoCal based Amigos Motorcycle Club, and served as club treasurer. He ran track in high school, was a baseball and billiard player, avid dart thrower and bowler.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Asta and their four children, Siggi, Ivar, Birna and Frankie. His former wife, Bertha Perez and their two children, Jaime and Angie. His former wife, Martha Solis and their two children, Timothy and Johnniemarie. His ten grandchildren, Caleb, Selena, Matthias, Rowan, Thorin, Evangeline, Ciara, Deion, Jordyn & Kingston. His three great- grandchildren, Beckham, Gabby and Noelle. As well as his Uncle, Bobby Solis and his siblings, Marcelino Solis, Tony Solis, George Solis, Anita Solis Navarro and Mark Solis.
