John Baird Jr.

John Wallace Baird Jr., 77, of Abilene passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 in Abilene.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 2:30 PM at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 US HWY 277 S. Abilene, Texas. Inurnment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
John was born on January 27, 1944 in Oxford, Mississippi to the late John Wallace Baird Sr. and Maurine Cole Baird. He was a graduate of Abilene High School. John earned a Bachelor of Science degree and did his graduate studies at North Texas State University. He married Kathryn James on January 28, 1966 in Crowell, Texas. John worked for Texas Instruments for 10 years before returning to teaching. He taught at Mann and Jefferson Middle schools and retired from Abilene High School where he taught Industrial Education. John was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hamby.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Baird; daughters, Lesli White and husband Brian, Angela Plemons and husband Jeff, Amy Sloan and husband Lance; grandchildren, Miranda Polselli and husband Ryan, Mackenzi Hodges and husband Jason, Riley Sloan, Hadley Sloan, Hailey Beauchamp and husband Bryce, Kendall Plemons, Will White; great grandchildren, Jackson, Colt, Baron, Hatti Mae, Neil, Hank; sister, Barbara Sanders and husband Vick; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
John was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Baird; brother James Baird; great grandson, Rowan Beauchamp.
John was an avid woodworker. He loved spending time at his dear lease, hunting with his grandchildren, fishing, and telling tall tales. John enjoyed all activities his grandchildren were involved in. He was especially proud to become a great grandpa.
