John Caronna

October 27, 1942 — April 10, 2018

John Caronna passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 16, 2018 at Elmcrest Baptist Church, 517 N Pioneer Drive, Abilene, Texas. The Honor Guard will perform a ceremony following the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.

John was born October 27, 1942 to John Caronna and Margeritte Schneider Caronna, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up in New Orleans where he graduated from high school and then joined the Airforce. He was stationed in Thailand, Guam, and Spain to name a few. The last several years he was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene where he retired after 20 years of service. He was a faithful member of Elmcrest Baptist Church for over 40 years and devoted deacon for many of those years. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family but most of all he wanted to bring others to the Lord. He was a devoted husband and loved his family dearly. John will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents; John Caronna and Margeritte Schneider Caronna, three sisters; AnnaMae Caronna Ducote, Eleanor Caronna Finn, and Melba Caronna Aucoin; and late wife Shirley LaRue Ridgway Caronna.

John is survived by his wife, Jeanette Caronna; son, Chris Caronna and his wife Heather; stepson, Bill Cook and his wife Triana; stepson, David Simpson and his wife Melinda; stepson, Bryon Simpson and his wife Beth Anne; stepdaughter, Luene Williams and her husband Jack; twelve grandchildren; Muireann Caronna, Maggie Caronna, Jack Caronna, Chris Sneed, Kyle Simpson, Melissa Simpson, Leanne Simpson, Michelle Simpson, Brandon Briley, Becky Tweed, Brittany Cross, and Casey Land; numerous great grandchildren; four nieces; Pam Ducote Ledet, Gwen Ducote Cole, Kathy Finn Eberhardt, and Jackie Finn Ludwick; five nephews; Alan Ducote, Daryl Ducote, Dean Aucoin, Brion Aucoin and Renee' Aucoin, and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
