John Truman Forbus, 73, died Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Abilene. His funeral service with Tom Satterwhite and Bob Cheatham officiating will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 27 at the Elmdale Baptist Church, 233 Elmdale RD South with burial following in the Midway Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.
John was born in Abilene on August 22, 1934 and graduated from Abilene High School in 1954. He was a lifelong Texan. He worked as an electrician in Lubbock for 15 years and later spent 30 years farming and ranching in Lorenzo. John moved back to Abilene in 1993 where he was a member of the Elmdale Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren who were the delight of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorthy Williams Forbus of Abilene; his children, Greg Forbus and wife Janet of Itasca, Deborah McFarling and husband Bill of Flower Mound, John Douglas Forbus and wife Michele of Littlefield; 7 grandchildren, Sam, Erik, Kristin, Josh, John Ross, Lance and Christopher; 3 great grandchildren, Tyler, Samantha, and Eden; two brothers, C.W. Forbus and wife Mary of Plains, Ross Forbus and wife Jane of Poteet; two sisters, Carroll Frydenberg and husband Don of Arlington, and Jean Collins of Canada.
