John Large

John Howard Large, 88, passed away March 9, 2018. A graveside Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 16, 2018 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South.
John was born December 18, 1929 in Abilene to parents, William and Elinor Large. He grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School. After graduation he joined the United States Navy and served as a Seabee for four years before transferring to the reserves where he served our country for another twenty-four years. During his time in the Navy Reserves he was called to active duty and served one year in Vietnam. He married Juanita Parker in 1954 and they enjoyed sixty-four years of marriage. He retired for the US Postal Service after a thirty-year career. He was also a great supporter of the Boy Scouts and volunteered as a Scout Leader for many years.
He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement whether it was spending time with the family, travelling, doing yardwork, or just being outdoors.
John is survived by his wife, Juanita; one daughter, Loretta Lee Grumbles; one son, Haden Howard Large; one granddaughter, Melia Grumbles Boone and husband Tiger; one grandson, William Hayden Large; two great-grandchildren, Colin and Ava Boone; one brother, Roy Large and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elinor.
