John Massey

Chief MSGT John W. Massey Ret, 78, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with entombment following in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Massey was born on March 7, 1931 in Miami, Florida where he grew up and attended school. He married Fannie McCall on July 5, 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years, retiring in 1981. After retirement, he operated Masseys Lawn Service in Abilene for several years. John was very active in the Abilene Cactus Lions Club, the Retired Chiefs Group and the VFW. He was a member of the Elmwood Baptist Church. John was well known in town for his elaborate Christmas decorations that would light up his house and yard on Alamo Street every season.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Fannie Massey of Abilene; sons, David Massey and wife Kim and John S. Massey all of Abilene; his daughter, Charlene Dochin and husband Robin of Tokyo, Japan; two sisters, Della Mae Dyer and Martha May; four grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson and husband Richard, Christopher Dochin, John S. Massey Jr. and Elyse Garza and 4 great grandchildren.

His parents, Walter M. Massey and Della Jenkins Massey, and a sister, Nancy Dyer preceded him in death.
