John (Jack) Wayne Merck, born November 5, 1937 in Franklin, PA, reached his final heavenly destination on January 22, 2021 from Abilene Texas. Preceded in death by his wife, Katharine Galbraith Merck; parents, John and Olive Merck; brother, David Merck; and daughter-in-law, OK Young Merck. Jack is survived by his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Bresser, four children: Lisa Ehler (Gordon), Leif Merck, Kirsti Healey (Thomas), Valerie Young (John) and by six grandchildren: Nick Merck, Danny Merck, Katharine Merck, Micah Tischler, Jessica Healey, Tasha Wheeler, and four great-grandchildren. . . and, his mini-dachshund Chloe.
Jack and Kay met in high school, where she asked him to the Sadie Hawkins dance. They were together until Kay's death in 2013. A chemical engineer with a degree from Case Western Reserve University, Jack was a natural leader. His hobbies became obsessions, and through the years there were many; Golf, backpacking, motorcycles, boating, disco dancing, flying, guns and ammo, ham radio and trying to convince his kids that they should be as avid about them as he was.
Dad - We are grateful for the life and love you gave us and all the things that you taught us. We will miss you forever, but know that you and Mom are together again, dancing the night away.
