John "Jay" Wigfall, aka "The Oil Man," transitioned from earth on December 7, 2021. Born on February 4, 1936, he was 85 years old.
Jay's Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. Funeral Services will be, Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow at the Elmwood Memorial Park.
Jay was born to Marion Wigfall and Bertha Reeves in Hamby, Texas. Later, the family moved to Abilene, Where he attended Woodson Elementary and Woodson High School. Jay met and married Dorothy Edmond in July 1957. He worked as an independent oil field pumper for 45 years in the Breckenridge and Albany area.
Jay's favorite thing to do was work, work, and take care of his goats. He loved the outdoors, and he loved his family. He had a great sense of humor and kept you laughing!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Bertha Wigfall, sons Danny Wigfall, and Victor "Papa" Wigfall; brothers David Wigfall, Marion Wigfall, and Edroy Wigfall; sisters Estella Langley, Helen Sauls, Rachel McNealy, Bertha McCowan, Thelma Judkins, Iva Jo Williams, and Oma Jean Wigfall.
Jay leaves to cherish his loving memory to his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Lee Wigfall, daughters Brenda Smith, Shelia Doolittle (Sam), Sherry Curry, Janet Wigfall; son Jimmy Edmond-Wigfall, sister Mavis Sampson; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
