Johnny Rutledge

Johnny D. Rutledge, Jr. age 70, passed away on October 27, 2016 in Sugarland, Texas.

Johnny was born on August 10, 1946 in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1964. After graduation, he attended technical school. Johnny enlisted in the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Kittyhawk during the Vietnam War. Johnny retired in 2010 as a draftsman for KBR Engineering in Houston, Texas.

Johnny enjoyed restoring vintage cars, especially '65 Ford Mustangs. He was also an avid coin collector. He was most proud of being a U.S. Veteran and he was a loyal supporter of various veteran's organizations. In addition, Johnny was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Johnny was preceded in death by his mother Myrtle Lou Rutledge and his father and step-mother, Johnny Davidson Rutledge Sr. and Miriam Rutledge. He is survived by his sister, Linda Rutledge of Abilene, and special friends, Kevin Casey of Houston and Mike and Kay Babington of Abilene.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 S, followed by a graveside service with military honors at Elmwood Memorial Park with Retired Army Chaplain, Reverend Bill Libby officiating.

Heartfelt appreciation is extended to Karen and the other employees of Brookdale Assisted Living in Sugarland. The love and care provided to Johnny will always be remembered.
