Jose Fernandez

Jose Fernandez, 76, of Abilene passed away Friday October 17, 2014 in Abilene.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday October 21 at 2:00 PM at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. A visitation with the family will be held on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Jose was born on December 16, 1937 in Brownsville, TX to Santos Fernandez and Romana Vela. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in December of 1954 and served his country with distinction. Jose married Shigeyo Hayashi in Tokyo, Japan on February 19, 1964. He retired from the Air Force in July of 1975 after 21 years of service. Jose and Shigeyo moved to Abilene and he went to work for Hendricks Medical Center as Director of Housekeeping and served there for 20 plus years until retirement. He was an avid golfer and volunteered at Hendricks Medical Center.

Jose was preceded in death by his father, Santos Fernandez mother, Romana V. Fernandez sister, Consuela Trejo brother, Santos Fernandez Jr.

Jose is survived by his wife, Shigeyo sisters Conception Vasquez of Jacksonville, N.C., Cesaria Serrata of Alice, TX numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
