Jose Ramirez

Jose Aurelio Joe Ramirez, 66, died Monday, May 19, 2008 at his home in Abilene. His funeral service, with Lydia Lopez Rodriguez officiating will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 23rd at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Elmwood Funeral Home from 6 to 7 PM on Thursday with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM.

Joe was born on June 19, 1941 in Edinburg, Texas. He grew up in Victoria where he met and married Antonia Duenes. He lived in Houston for 13 years working on the construction of high rise buildings before coming to Abilene in 1986 where he was employed by Abilene Cattle Feeders. Joe was active in the El Buen Samaritano Church, serving as a deacon for several years.

Joe was a family man, and a faithful servant of the Lord. His grandkids were his life and he was always there for them, picking them up from school and attending their many activities. He loved people and became a quick friend to everyone he met. He enjoyed cooking out and he had to have his coffee.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Antonia Ramirez of Abilene; his mother, Maria Rodriguez of Abilene; a sister, Mary Alice Balderas of Abilene; his children, Debora Gonzales and Martha Ramirez of Angleton, Maria Ramirez, Sandra Martinez, Theresa Gonzales, Jose Ramirez Jr., and Joannie Ramirez all of Abilene; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

His father, Jose Aurelio Ramirez and his brother, Jesus Ramirez preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford St, Abilene, Texas 79605. The family would like to publicly thank the nurses and staff for the wonderful care and happiness they brought to Joe during his final days.
