Joseph Rios

Joseph Rios, 84, passed away January 30, 2013 in Abilene. Visitation will be 4 till 6 PM, Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral will be 2 PM, Monday, February 4, 2013 at Ambler Baptist Church, 2150 Park Ave. Interment will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Park with US Air force Military Honors.
Joseph was born November 21, 1928 in Los Angeles, CA to Jose and Dolores Rios. He joined the Air Force at 18 years old, where he faithfully served his country for 25 years until his retirement as a SMSGT. His service included the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retirement he graduated from McMurry University and then Abilene Christian University with a Masters of Education degree. He taught for AISD for 18 years spending most of his career at Fannin Elementary.
He married the love of his life Alice Trujillo in Albuquerque, NM in 1950 and they have enjoyed 61 years of marriage. He was a faithful member of Ambler Baptist Church and served on several mission trips to Mexico. He was an assistant scout leader for the Boy Scouts for several years. He was a volunteer and delivered meals for Abilene Meals on Wheels. His favorite times were always spent with his family. He enjoyed traveling the country camping with Alice, fishing, and photography.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Alice five children, Michael Rios and wife Ruth, Dolores Owens and husband Steven, Christine Creed and husband Ronnie, Maria Tolentino and husband Edward, Lynda Mounts and husband Scott eleven grandchildren, Robin, Arly, Alison, Dameeka, Christopher, Micah, Matthew, Jennifer, Joshua, Reagan, Harrison ten great grandchildren, Jinger, Olive, Dahlia, Camryn, Dylan, Caidyn, Julia, Timothy, Natalie, and Gabriella.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Norma Jean Farmer and Rebecca Jo Dixon.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Meals on Wheels, 717 N 10th St, Abilene, TX 79601
