Jovita was born in Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, February 15, 1926 to Urbano and Placida Garcia. She married Manuel Becerra, Sr. October 18, 1941. The couple moved to Mission, Texas and settled in Abilene in 1955. She and her husband had 11 children, who they raised with love and hard work ethics.
Jovita is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, one sister, one daughter and one son.
Survivors include her children, Julia Garcia (Alfredo) of San Bernadino, California; Melissa Paredes (Eusebio) of Compton, California; Maria Berta Landeros (Juan), Junita Perez, Jovita Torres (Roger), Manuel Becerra, Jr. (Sonja), Dorthy Guerra (Arnold), Johnny Becerra, and Robert Becerra (Melissa), all of Abilene; 39 grandchildren; 114 great-grandchildren; 41 great-great-granchildren; one nephew and one niece.
Jovita was a member of the American G.I. Forum for many years and held many positions within the organization. She became an American citizen in 1998. She was proud to be an American and always had love and respect for the American flag.
She was a member of St. Francis and was a Cursillista, Guadalupara and participated in many other church functions. Her passion was singing and in the local area she was known as "La Charita". She sang with many local bands and famous bands such as Little Joe and La Familia, Joe Bravo and many more. She enjoyed singing to the public, but really enjoyed singing to her family and loved ones. Although we miss her voice and laughter, she was ready to go to our Lord in Heaven.
The family would like to give special thanks to Kindred Care of Abilene and their entire staff for the care that was given. Thanks to one special grandson, Robert Becerra, Jr., whom she loved dearly and that loved her with all his heart. He has taken care of her needs for many years without regards for himself or his own needs. May the Lord always bless him with love from all of his family.
