Juanita Morton

June 27, 1923 — March 22, 2013

Juanita Nita Wilson Morton, 89, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 in Abilene. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with interment following at Noon in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Rd.

Nita was born on June 27, 1923 in Stonewall, Oklahoma to Luther Wilson and Ida Mae Pippenger Wilson and grew up in Kellyville, Oklahoma as one of five children. She graduated with honors from Oklahoma State University and later joined the United States Air Force where she met and married Walter P. Morton Jr. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service and had been the Postmaster in a number of West Texas cities over the years. She was a Life Master Bridge player, an avid reader and enjoyed gardening.

Nitas greatest joy in life was being mother and she will always be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother who put others needs above her own.

Survivors include her children, Jeff Morton and wife Karen of Midland and Natalie Matthews and husband Matt of Abilene two grandchildren, Sarah Braden and husband Brent and Rebecca Morton all of Midland her sister, Wanda Goodman and husband J.D. of Kellyville, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband, two sisters, Mary Hellard and Nell Hickey, and a brother, Wayne Wilson preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605 or the Alzheimers Association, 301 S. Pioneer, Suite 105, Abilene, TX 79605
