Katherine Loretta Collins, 74, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008 in Abilene. Viewing and visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM on Wednesday, December 31st at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 2, 2009 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Good Shepherd.
Katherine was born on February 14, 1934 in Waco the daughter of John Wesley Byrd and Jewel Estelle Whitlock. On August 1, 1953, she married Charles Farrell Collins, who was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. The family came to Abilene in 1969 after being stationed at Dyess Air Force Base. Katherine worked many years in food service both at Abilene State School and at Jackson Elementary, retiring in 2001. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Katherine was always on the go and she loved to have fun and cut up with family and friends. She was an angel to many and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include three daughters, Vicky McCall and husband Gary of Buffalo Gap, Rose Cahill of Abilene, Pam Hughes and husband Doug of Abilene; one son, Charlie Collins and special friend Sabrina Halbert of Abilene; five grandchildren, Stephanie McCall, Chera McCall-Johnson, Katherine Hughes, Jeannie Depoe and Angela Cahill; six great grandchildren, a special aunt, Offa Kinsey of Carlsbad, Texas and several other friends and family members.
Her husband Charles preceded her in death on November 3, 2000.
