Katherine L. Hegg of Abilene Texas passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Brook Hollow Christian Church, 2310 South Willis, Abilene, TX. The service will be officiated by Pastor Penny Biddy. Burial will follow the service at Elmwood Memorial Cemetery.
Katherine, was born in Loraine, Texas on January 29, 1927 to Barney and Ruby Honea. After graduating from Loraine High School, Katherine moved to San Angelo, Texas. It was then that she met the love of her life, James H. Hegg, who was attending pilot training at Goodfellow AFB. James and "Kitty" a nickname he gave her that followed for life. The couple married on April 7, 1946 at the small chapel on Base in San Angelo. Her husband served his country in the US Air Force for 25 years and Kitty made their frequent moves for the family with ease. They lived in Okinawa, Oklahoma, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Alabama, and Massachusetts. Lt Col. Hegg retired from the Air Force in 1965 and the family moved to Abilene, TX to be closer to Kitty's parents and relatives. They were long time members of Brook Hollow Christian Church. Kitty enjoyed playing golf with her friends and also loved painting as a hobby. She and Jim were once members of the Sams Club, a RV group and looked forward to traveling to different parks in Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hegg; a son, Ronnie Hegg; and her parents, Barney and Ruby Honea. Survivors include her two children, daughter, Jan McCarty and husband, Larry of Hawley, Texas and son, Robert Hegg and wife Jan of Dallas Texas. She is also survived by her grandsons, Ryon Parham and wife Jennifer of Claremore, Oklahoma and Chase McCarty and wife Kelly of Justin, TX.; great grandchildren, Will and Lauren Parham and Mason and Garrett McCarty. Also surviving are her brother, Jimmy Honea and wife Betty of Big Spring along with many cousins, a niece and nephew.
The family has requested any memorial donations be made to Brook Hollow Christian Church, S. Willis, Abilene TX 79605, Hendricks Hospice Center, Pine Street Abilene TX or Rescue the Animals of Abilene.
