Katherine Jacob

Katherine Jacob, 96, died Thursday, June 24, 2010 in Abilene. A graveside service will be held at Saron Cemetery near Aitkin, Minnesota at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until Noon the day of the service at SorensonRootThompson Funeral Home in Aitkin, Minnesota. Local arrangements are with Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Katherine was born in Thor, Minnesota on March 1, 1914 the daughter of John Peter Erickson and Hannah Amelia Olson. She attended school in both Thor and Minneapolis and married Ordway Kirk Kirkaby in 1929. Katherine and Kirk came to Abilene in 1948 and opened both the Tower Twin and Crescent DriveIns in partnership with her brother Rudy Erickson. Katherine owned and operated the theaters until 1969. After the death of her first husband, she later married W.A. Jake Jacob who also preceded her in death.

Katherine was passionate about the care and protection of animals and was active with both the Humane Society and Pieta. She enjoyed playing polkas and waltzes and had been a member of several small bands where she played the steel guitar and the accordion.

Survivors include 4 nephews, Art and Larry Erickson of Big Bear Lake, California, Byron Meluis of Colleyville, Texas and Richard Schlief of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
