Kathy Lavohn Elmore, age 71, died at her Abilene home on Sunday, January 17th, after a 6 ½ month battle with brain cancer. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Abilene’s Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel and followed by a graveside service at the cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and maintain social distancing in our continual fight against Covid.
Kathy was born, raised, and baptized in Abilene. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1968, attended McMurry University, and worked at Hendrick Hospital as a respiratory therapist. Subsequently, she moved to Austin, Texas where she continued to work as a respiratory therapist until her retirement and returned to Abilene in 2013.
Kathy loved her plants and animals and kept a steady succession of canine companions. She enjoyed good music, a good book, and visiting with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ott Elmore, and her younger sister, Debbie Elmore. Survivors include her mother, Peggy J. Elmore, of Abilene; brother and wife, Ed and Donnella Elmore of College Station, Texas; nephew and wife, Carl and Emily Elmore and children, Bodhi and Dylan, all of Wilmington, North Carolina; and nephew and wife, Mark and Heidi Elmore and her in utero son, of Spokane, Washington. Additionally, she is survived by multiple loving cousins and their family members and numerous loyal friends. Finally, she leaves behind the last of a long line of faithful and beloved dogs- Bubba and Sissy.
Pallbearers include her two nephews, dear friends, Jimmy Patton and Larry Hughes, and relatives, Ken Williams, Sharon Foster, Laura Hastings, Lesa Truitt, and Laurie Brown.
Kathy’s family wishes to thank her long-time family physician, Dr. Barry Moak, and her faithful and loving caregivers, Karla and Nannie May Davis, Tabitha Cagle, and her loyal and devoted mother, Peggy J. Elmore.
