Kenneth Dale “Pete” Green passed away August 27, 2024, in Abilene. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel located at 5750 Highway 277 South, at 2:00 PM with James Shipman officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the funeral home.
Known as Pete to all his friends and family, he was born June 13, 1947, in Morenci, AZ to Claude and Dean Green. He was a 1965 graduate of Cooper High School and shortly afterwards, began his 42-year career within the airline industry. He started at Abilene Flite and then on to Trans Texas, Texas International and Eagle Aviation, where he retired. He loved the airlines and could tell you about every plane that flew, and he always had a story to tell about some of the days gone by. Everyone loved Pete and would always have a good laugh from these stories.
Watching the Cowboys was another pleasure Pete had, especially with his “special” little brother, Randy. Pete was a very loving brother to him and would take him to Cowboy games and to Graceland since Randy was such a fan of Elvis-those were happy memories made by both. Pete was a good man and loved nature, always watching God’s little critters, big and small.
Pete is survived by a sister, Sharon Kelley (Rafael) of Abilene; a sister-in-law, (Linda) of Flagler, CO; sister-in-law, (Elvira Green) of Cloudcroft, NM; his stepdaughter, Tina Summers and step-grandsons, Devon and Torin of Amarillo and several nieces and nephews, including his pride and joys, David and Michael Kelley.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Michelle; his parents, and brothers, Gerald, Ronnie, and Randy.
Pete was a good man and loved by all and will be truly missed. At Pete’s request, just prior to the service, he wishes to take one last drive around the old airport and stop at the old terminal building and old hangar #1 there. Then, proceed to new airport (Abilene Regional) and stop at the terminal buildings and American Eagle Hangar.
